Six months on from the Grenfell Tower fire, little has changed for the families affected - we are still fighting to be heard and to get the support we need to rebuild our lives. 166 families are facing the prospect of Christmas without a home. We, Grenfell United, ask you to stand in solidarity with us - the bereaved, survivors and affected community - as we campaign to find new homes for our families, rebuild our lives and our community, and as we start our fight justice.
On June 14th, the Grenfell Tower caught fire and the eyes of the world fell on our community in West London.
71 people lost their lives. They were our mothers and sisters, fathers and brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, sons and daughters. They were our loved ones, our neighbours and our friends. Many of us have lost our homes. Our whole community has been affected by this tragedy.
Six months on little has changed. Many of us are still homeless, facing Christmas in hotel rooms. We still wait for answers, for a apology for the events that led the fire. Our voices, and the voices of our community, are not being heard.
After the fire, Prime Minister Theresa May promised that our families would be “rehoused within three weeks”. It’s almost Christmas and 4 out of 5 families affected are still homeless.
We have called for changes to the Public Inquiry so that the voices of the bereaved, survivors and the community will be heard. Our simple requests are yet to be granted. It is clear we have a long fight ahead for truth and justice.
We still need so much more: support for our families dealing with trauma, better fire safety in our houses, support to rebuild our community and commitments that the Grenfell land will be given to the community for a fitting memorial.
Today we ask you to help, with your support, and your voice, our calls for justice and action will be heard. Please join us today, to stand in solidarity with the survivors, the bereaved and the community affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
You turned up in our time of urgent need after the fire and it gave us strength. We now ask you to help us once again. We have a long road ahead but with your support we can rebuild our lives and find the truth.
The survivors and bereaved families have come together to form Grenfell United so our voices can be heard. Join us today and we will keep you up-to-date on how you and support us in the months and years to come.
